Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18
  • A current, valid Emergency First Aid at Work (or equivalent) certificate, valid for at least 12 months from the course start date — must be completed and passed before security training begins
  • Sufficient English and/or Welsh language skills (minimum equivalent to CEFR B2) to communicate effectively in an emergency
  • A valid passport, signed UK photocard driving licence, HM forces/police warrant card, or another form of photographic ID accepted by the SIA
  • You must currently hold an SIA licence to work as a door supervisor

Assessment Method

Graded pass/fail, with each unit assessed through both a knowledge test and a practical demonstration. Unit 1 knowledge test: 35-question multiple-choice exam (55 minutes), pass mark 71%; Unit 1 practical: observed demonstration of searching and use of communications devices, pass mark 100%. Unit 2 knowledge test: 30-question multiple-choice exam (45 minutes), pass mark 80%; Unit 2 practical: observed demonstration of every physical intervention technique plus a Q&A session, pass mark 100%. All practical assessments are visually recorded, as required by the SIA.
